The run

The Rubicon isn't a trail you knock out on a lunch break. It's a two-to-three day commitment across some of the gnarliest granite in the Sierra Nevada. Lockers front and rear, 35s minimum, and a spotter you trust.

Start at Loon Lake and work east. The Little Sluice will humble you inside the first few miles. Take your lines slow, stack rock where you need it, and don't be the crew that leaves a mess behind.

What to pack

Recovery gear is non-negotiable. Straps, a winch, a full-size spare, and more water than you think you need. Cell service is a rumor out here.

The payoff

Buck Island Lake at golden hour, camp set, rigs cooling, crew swapping stories. That's the whole reason. Air down. Roll out. Pull each other through.
